Kay and Alexander - Wedding at St Chads in Kirkby, Merseyside and Reception at Crowne Plaza Speke

This Saturday was a very special wedding for Made up by ... it was the wedding of the very beautiful Kay to Alex.

Kay is my second Cousin with her Mum, Cathy being my first Cousin, so to do this wedding has been a big honour for me.

In order for Kay to get the very best for her bridal look I made sure that she booked my favourite Bridal Hair specialist Carol Ellis-Thompson.

So for Kay's makeup I used the following:

Base - I wanted to keep her foundation Matte, as I could see areas that there may have been shine and I used Peggy Sage Code Mattifying primer on the t zone, for the rest of the face I used Laura Mercier Oil Free Primer.  I love the finish you get from Illamasqua skin base and her skin being good I used this but ensured that it was buffed into the face using a real techniques buffing brush to give it that airbrush effect.

Her skin is flawless no redness so I wanted her to look even more glowing.  I used Matte bronzer by MAC to give her a subtle sunkissed glow and for a light contour to enhance her lovely high cheekbones I used Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Glam and Glow, the contour side of this palette is amazing it really is a shadow and not warm unlike other contour products on the market that can look a bit to orange or brown.  Her highlight I wanted it to show but be subtle and to create this I used Peggy Sage Code Peche highlight.

She has naturally rosy cheeks but I wanted to give her a little blush and to create this I used my old favourite Charlotte Tilbury Lip and Cheek Tint in Las Salinas the product smells divine very vanilla and it has a subtle shimmer to it and if just glides on the skin.

Her eyes are naturally stunning and most definitely her thing, crystal blue and very big so to compliment her eyes I used browns to contour into her crease from Naked by Urban Decay and for subtle sparkle in the centre of her eye I wanted to use a peach tone as it brings out blue eyes so I used Peaches and Cream Pigments in Luxe and Nude.  I gave her a little flick and lined her eyes using Illamasqua gel liner.  I used a corner lash to add a bit of subtle drama and the ones I use are from Prima lash and they are number 301.

Finally Kay has naturally pink lips so using a nude tone on her would not have worked at all, she wanted a matte lip so I used a satin matte lip from Bourjois in Nude-ist which is not actually nude its more of a dusky pink.

All in all it was a great day she looked amazing in her dress which I am sure you will agree and to be a big part of her prep was very special indeed.

I wish Kay and Alex the very best for the future xxxx

Thornton Manor Photoshoot

I have been meaning to blog about this day for a while but what with wedding season I just have not had the time,

A couple of months ago I took part in a shoot at the beautiful Thornton Manor, Cheshire premier exclusive wedding venue.

Involved in the shoot was the very lovely Tracey Hollinshead who owns Award Winning Bridal Showroom, Cherish Bridal in Northwich, another Award Winner, Duncan Fisher Hair Designer, I was the Makeup Artist for this shoot and the model we used was Bethany Cammack, a highly experienced local model who all of us had worked with in the past so we knew she could deliver the looks we wanted to achieve.

Paul Kyte who is Cheshire based created the images and a photo-film from the day.

We arrived at the manor and used the Lady Lever room for the prep and styling.

The look we wanted to achieve was very reminiscent of old school Hollywood with very glowing skin, glossy vintage hair and lots of glamour in the gown and the accessories.

The gown was from bridal designer Ronald Joyce, so 30's Jean Harlow with the detail but simple cut of the dress.

Makeup is what I do and the products I used to create this was:

Base Laura Mercier Oil Free Silk Creme

Contour Charlotte Tilbury Film Star glam and glow

Cheeks Charlotte Tilbury Lip and Cheek Tint in Las Salinas

Eyes Urban Decay Naked palette and Disco and Nude pigments from Peaches and Cream, Inglot Gel Liner

Lashes Prima lashes demi lashes 301
Lips Lime Crime Red Velvet and Candy Apple Gloss in centre of the lip

It was a great day, we used an area at the manor that in the summer months is used as a tree lined aisle that the bride and her father walk up together and an area near the Walled Pavillion.  Thornton Manor is the best wedding venue in the area it has opulence and charm and I am lucky enough to be one of their preferred suppliers.

Micro Blading the latest trend in eye-brow shaping

Micro-blading the latest trend in eye-brow shaping

I am going on my Micro-blading course in April and will be offering this from 2nd week in April at an introduction price of £130 will be £200 after introduction, this treatment is exclusive to Star Beauty.
I will be taking appointments from now and will require a £50 deposit on all bookings regardless of whether you are a regular client of mine or not, due to the time the treatments takes up to 2 hours and costs involved.
As you know I put a lot of care an attention and perfection in all the treatments I do so you will get the same standard of service when I start this.

Many are asking me what Micro-blading is and this is what it is:
Microblading is a semi perm makeup (tattoo) and it is a way of implanting pigment under the epidermis using a specially designed tiny blade which leaves thin realistic hair strokes for the most natural finish.  The treatments differs from a standard tattoo as it does not go as deep into the epidermis, and it will last anything from 1-2 years and you will require top ups when necessary.
The design of the brow  is totally up to you but I will advise on the best look for your face shape and personal style.
Your colour will be mixed from the highest quality pigments just for you so it matches your hair colour and skin tone.
Using this method I will create almost any look, from a very natural light finish or a beautifully bold and defined brow
Sparse or missing brows can be completely restored but a full already defined brow can be enhanced further so that it looks filled in, so saves time from your usual make-up routine
When using the hand held microblade, the colour is deposited closer to the surface than when a machine is used leaving very fine and crisp hair strokes with no spilling under the skin.
Micro-blading originated in Asia and is also known as eyebrow embroidery. A fantastic treatment for anyone looking to improve or enhance the appearance of their eyebrows.
Please note these images are examples of how micro-blading looks and not my work xxx

Cashmere Lashes the Ultimate in luxury for the Bride to be

The Ultimate luxury and glamour in lashes, for the bride to be on her big day are Cashmere Lashes.

I have been offering these Cashmere lashes now for the last 2 weeks at the salon to all my clients and I absolutely love them.

They are lighter and softer than the regular classic lash that I offer and they are far kinder to the natural lash, because they are flat at the base so they sit flush to the natural lash which means less glue, a connect that is stronger so less twisting and crosses and it means my client is less likely to pick at the lash.

With the classic lash I offer they are full and they looks fabulous, but the lash is fairly rigid and my ladies do often say they just want to give their eyes a good rub and they can not.  With the Cashmere being lighter and a
better bond they can do this without feeling like they are going to lose lashes.

All in all, I prefer these to the classic lash and I am so glad to be offering these to my clients at Star Beauty and for Feb/March I am offering these at an intro price of just £40 but these will be going to the original price of £50 in April.

Thornton Manor

Thornton Manor is an exclusive wedding venue in Thornton Hough on the Wirral.  A very beautiful place to have your big day and with 3 unique outdoor venues on site as well as the very beautiful house itself, it really is the very best wedding venue in the North West offering brides a slice of history and style to put your own unique spin on your big day.

I am pleased to announce that I have just been made one of the preferred suppliers for the venue, which means the venue recommends my services to brides booking or enquiring.  I will be attending the open evenings once a month.

I took a tour of the place today and got to see the house, and the 3 venues on the grounds of the manor.  It really does have the wow factor and I can not wait to work with the venue in the coming years.

Classic, Timeless and Elegant Bridal Makeup

So I got to thinking about my past brides, my bridal makeup and my style in general....  and I think there are three words that define my look and style:

Classic

Timeless

Elegant

When looking back on those pictures in 10, 20, 30 and 40 years time you want to smile and know that you look your very best on your day and you don't cringe because you went with a look that was very much of the time and it was just too extreme.

My thoughts on bridal makeup is that you can take a look from the era but don't take it to the extreme, and current trends would be heavy contour, extreme Strobing that the skin can look fairly plastic and heavy over-filled eyebrows.  Its keeping it clean and keeping it simple.

A Bride should always be radiant, and most of all extremely Elegant, so the makeup should enhance the brides inner beauty and style.

I look at all my bridal work with pride because each and every bride I have worked on I really like, from brides going for very natural, to brides slightly vintage in styling through to brides who have opted for high glamour, but each and every one of them exudes pure Classic, Timeless Elegance.
